Sometimes when you understand what your child is doing what he/she is doing you can muster up the patience to deal with the behavior. Also, many parents tend to worry if their child is normal. Biting and hitting are concerns to parents with two year olds but are perfectly normal behaviors for a toddler and knowing this fact lets a parent breathe a sigh of relief. However, just because this behavior is normal at this stage, does not mean that it goes undisciplined. Parents need to know that they will have to do more educating and disciplining during their child's early years.
The Geseli Institute for Human Development suggests that easy ages tend to alternate with difficult ages. Ages of equilibrium - inward looking, quiet, withdrawn - tend to be followed by ages of disequillibrium, outward looking, exuberant, expansive. A break-up of a calm period is usually followed by mature stages of development.
Don't get concerned if your child is ahead or behind these stages or if descriptions don't resemble what your child does. Every child is an individual. Every child may exhibit some of these behaviors while a sibling from the same family may not.
There are many delightful qualities from each age that far outweigh the negatives or challenges you will read about.
