• Be
wary of clinics that offer “quick fixes”. Also, stray away from
anyone offering a reward based program. Remember motivation comes
from within.
• Parenting is not an exact science and every child is different it is important to assess our unique environment and family structure before creating an effective solution.
• Look for information that gives you tangible concrete results- be wary of very philosophical approaches that leave you with more questions than answers.
• The first thing to
be wary of is any type of psychologically based service that makes
promises to make your problems disappear. There is no such thing-
the only way to make consistent changes and progress is to increase
awareness, education, and develop personal responsibility. These
attributes are put forth based on the client’s efforts and
commitment to improving the quality of his or her life. Most parents
believe that there is nothing more important than the relationship
they have with their child and therefore once they are taught
alternatives to resolving conflicts, they are delighted with the
discovery process of becoming an effective parent.
